Jay Semi was born and raised in The South Bronx. Growing up in The Bronx he became familiar with the Hip-Hop atmosphere. As a youngster he would enjoy watching the crowds as they gathered to witness the battles; whether rapping, break dancing or human beat boxing. These activities laid the basis for his love for the art form.
Jay Semi comes from a heritage rich Puerto Rican family. Music was second nature to his family. During parties or other festivities everyone would participate in the music. Partygoers would play instruments or simply clap their hands; he fell in love with the energy caused by the music.
One person that inspired him is his late grandfather. Jay Semi’s grandfather played the guitar and was a public figure in his community; that was honored for playing music composed by fellow countrymen Rafael Hernandez. With his grandfather inspiring him he grew an immense love for his culture and it's people.
Jay Semi started writing his own lyrics at the age of twelve. Not before long he was participating in rap battles and ciphers making a name for himself. Having developed his own name and style Jay Semi is poised to leave his mark in the Hip Hop culture.
