Armed with confidence, brains and beauty, Hip Hop/R&B songstress Lyrik (born Tasharia Williams) has a story to tell. Life gave the twenty-two year old mother of 3, lemons and she made a fierce pitcher of lemonade. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, Lyrik’s home life was anything but stable. Lyrik was mostly raised by her father (James A. Williams JR.). She began singing in the church and school choirs at a very early age. As she matured she started a girl group called “Lyric”. They did various talent shows and ended shortly after. After high school her uncle, father, grandfather and aunt passed away. Lyrik was devastated. Having moved around to live with family, friends throughout her adolescent and teenage years, Lyrik’s surroundings could have negatively impacted her. From her environment and going through rough times, like being homeless, sleeping in a car and scraping up change just to eat, made her a stronger person. She quotes “trying not to be like the rest of the negative people in my life…sent me in the right direction but with good comes bad and I’ve had to overcome a lot but I keep pushing.” Lyrik always wanted to do music, but never had anyone to push her, until she met her children’s father and became a mom. That gave her the push she needed. Lyrik is inspired by many people in the industry such as Alicia Keys, Anthony Hamilton, Jay-Z but her main inspiration is her children and their father (Recogneyez). Lyrik say’s “I would’ve never thought that I could rap, I mean I always could write, I am a natural at that, but my flow was like old school. He taught me, when it comes to rap, he’s a genius.” Lyrik has been singing for many years and rapping for almost 3 but she say’s “singing is always my first love but I can’t chose one over the other because music is music, there really isn’t much of a difference.” Lyrik has sparked a buzz throughout the Maryland, VA, And D.C area and she is well on her way to becoming the next big star.
