Who are you?
"I'll tell you when i find out!"
From Brooklyn born, Tyree "Frontier" Boyd (22) plans on shaping the sound of Music. One beat at a time.
His Passion for Producing partially came from being a MC, and not having the resources to put together an original demo.
"I used to cop all the Industry Instrumental tapes i could find. First, it was just to rap over, you know?
It help tighten my flow, it also help me to appreciate the actual production..the beat, instruments..ect
rather than just the song. What is a hot meal without a plate to eat it on?" He made the move to becoming the plate.
Define Frontier
" I guess word that jumps out ls "Front"..meaning before or firstly..The word itself has alot of historic value.
One of the definitions i read is The most advanced achievement in a particular field: IE, the frontiers of physics.
I like that one. Sooner or later, "Frontin" is gonna mean head nodding to one of my joints." *laughs*
How did you get started?
"I'll take you back..a toy keyboard, then, a drum machine then, "mtv music generator" game. Then, another
more advanced beat machine. I did everything i could to make a beat. I was terrible at it.
Then came a basic PC program called "Beatcraft" Which helped me shape patterns. I loved the
freedom of it. boom-boom-tap, tap! It was there when i found out i was on to something.
Some people do yoga, watch a movie or smoke to relax, i make tracks.
What's your Style?
"I don't think i have a particular sound or style. Maybe that's my flaw. I'm inspired by so much
..i kind of just mesh it all together and hope it comes out the way i hear it in my head."
He Cites Producers Timbaland Pharrell as his main inspiration along with Kanye West, Just Blaze,
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Babyface, Bob James and the Legendary, Quincy Jones. "The last thing i want is to be labled a
a hip-hop producer. I am a fan of a wide range of music..Hopefully, my music will translate that about me."
Whats the first beat you fell in love with?
"UMM..The first beat that struck a chord with me was Noreaga's "Superthug" (1998)
Everything from the The snake rattle percussions to the repetitive synth line, heavy kicks..and open snares.
At the time, as a aspiring artist, i wished it was my beat..but something else in me wished i made it FOR Nore!
It was just my shit that summer! *Laughs*.
Whats next for Frontier?
"The world! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
In the works is "Pen, pad and a bad day" the debut album by his cousin and buisness partner "Justice".
Frontier is producing the set in entirley. "This album..hopefully will make people......*Pauses*
We are trying to Introduce ourselves to the game in an unobvious, bold way..doing what we love doing."
After all, first impressions last forever. He is also looking to Add artist his resume
"I don't see myself as being as cost heavy as the big wigs. This is what i love.
I know what it's like to not have the necessary music to compliment my lyrics.
Im Intrested in people who want to make concept driven music.
Im willing to meet you half way. Quality is a top Priority at Grind House."
