Eddy J. Free’s background in classical and church music, as well as his love for hip-hop, R&B and jazz, has paved the way for many opportunities: he's composed music for MTV, been signed to a management deal with LA entertainment lawyer Darrell Thompson(Jay-Z, The Black-Eyed Peas, D'Angelo, Raphael Saadiq, The Avilla Brothers, Myke Diesel and Ron Isley.)
He's co-produced with multi-platinum producer Kayo (LaFace Records, Toni Braxton, TLC) and he's had the opportunity to work with legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden and to be in the studio learning from grammy-award winning bassist/award-winning producer/bassist Andrew Gouche (Mary Mary, Warren G, The Winans and Chaka Khan) among others.
Constantly surrounded by music from an early age, Eddy taught himself to read music and started playing piano at the age of seven. Within a few years he was composing and writing songs, as well as playing drums for the school band and piano for his church.
This love led to a music scholarship and degree from California Institute of the Arts and later on he graduated near the top of his class from The Recording Workship, a well-respected production and engineering school.
