KARIS, by "chick" definition, is pure Grace with an Exotic twist that Engages one in a Sang-Froid, Jaw-Dropping Encounter with Artistic Flow. A powerful voice packed with an amazing personality makes for this talented one-two punch combination in 18-year-old KARIS. From Holbrook, NY, a quaint town in Long Island, KARIS has burgeoned onto the set, not only through music, but also through theatre and dancing. Diversifying the music industry's ordinary Jane's and Sue's with a contemporary ethnicity and a fresh look, a pristine way of life, an unheard sound and progressive attitude, all while comprising her ability to mesmerize and imprison the very words normally used to describe her pulsating sound leaving you speechless with her wide tonal range.
"I'll admit I love singing along to Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera whenever I hear a song of theirs," said KARIS. "I'll also admit that I belt out loud to Heather Headley and Sara Ramirez, who's starred in Broadway shows."
Currently, KARIS is recording a demo with Crown Kingz Productions (C.K.P.) with an assortment of varying sounds from Rock 'n B to Pop to R&B with future number one hits like Thinkin About Ya, Come On, Let U Go and Anytime. She has definitely created a buzz among some of the hottest in the industry which includes executives and A&Rs at every major record label.
"Karis has a beautiful voice and her range is so deep," said Nico Solis, producer/engineer for C.K.P. "I didn't think her voice could get so high and then go so low…she reminded me of Toni Braxton at one point."
Discovered by 3 Chicks In A Basket Management Group (3 Chicks), based in Atlanta, Ga., composed of Marie Brown, Natasha Pitts and Regina Pitts, who at the time was looking to form an interracial girl band, KARIS proved to be enough for all. While browsing Atlanta's Craig's List, her mother, Grace Hsia, saw the posting and immediately responded by sending an email with headshots and snippets of songs that KARIS had recorded and performed a while back for Broadway purposes. Taken aback by the sound coming from the computer speakers, 3 Chicks knew they had to get her to Atlanta.
"When I first heard her voice I thought to myself, 'I got to see this girl,'" said Marie Brown. "This huge voice comes out of this tiny, young girl, and it's amazing to hear her sing anything. I couldn't keep it to myself."
Growing up in Holbrook, KARIS attended Grundy Avenue Elementary School where she was first noticed by her choir teacher Virginia Abresch, who first heard this loud voice coming from the back of the choir…so loud and beautiful that KARIS was hand picked as the soloist for the choir. In high school, KARIS was nurtured along in her singing career by Margaret Murphy and continuously by her vocal coach Christine Radman, and in college by Kyoung Cho. She attends the State University of New York at Fredonia, where she is earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and is major training to be a triple threat in acting, dancing and singing. This highly competitive program admits 12 students out of hundreds of competing applicants.
"Faith is my driving force - faith in people, faith in God and faith in a better future," said KARIS. "I've always been the type [of person] to hope for the best and work my way through hardships."
